The LOVE Building in Detroit's Core City neighborhood has partnered with MI Carshare to host a new all-electric shared vehicle, expanding affordable transportation options for residents, tenants and the surrounding community.
The new location is MI Carshare's sixth in Detroit and the first electric vehicle deployed in the city through funding from the Michigan Department of Transportation's $15 million Equitable Mobility Challenge. The initiative is designed to expand equitable access to shared electric transportation across Michigan.
The service allows approved members ages 21 and older with a valid driver's license to reserve vehicles by the hour or day using a mobile app. Rates start at $5 per hour or $60 per day, with charging and insurance included, providing an affordable alternative to vehicle ownership for trips such as grocery shopping, medical appointments and other daily errands.
MI Carshare launched in Detroit in 2024 and has since served more than 400 local members. The state-funded expansion will add 35 vehicles in Detroit and Grand Rapids, along with at least 30 more in other Michigan cities by 2028, with a goal of serving 5,000 users and generating 1 million miles of zero-emission travel each year.
